ENVY Series Bags

The original request was for one "day in the life" video showing the new bags in HPi's ENVY series. We identified 4 different locations around downtown San Jose, which would best allow us to highlight the different features of the bags. Since the bags shared the same features, we decided that each bag could have their own video, if we filmed them simultaneously - without increasing what we had quoted for one video. Once we had identified locations and come up with a rough treatment, we used a stand-in actor to film an animatic. We had all of the products and props at the agency's office, and experimented with different blocking possibilities while we filmed the animatic. It was a great way to flesh out the feel of the whole video before filming. The resulting animatic cut gave the client a more accurate representation of our concept than a storyboard would have.

HP ENVY Series Animatic Rather than create a storyboard, we went straight to filming. We didn't light. We didn't use any camera rigs. We just filmed each shot a few different ways and assembled the takes that worked best together. It was a fun way to plan, not only the shot blocking, but it inspired some ideas that we hadn't anticipated. Sometimes a great idea happens on set, and the shot you had planned becomes something much better. Filming an animatic so early in the pre-production process gave us another opportunity to find these happy accidents - without having to worry about our production schedule.
